HOMESICK IN CALIFORNIA
As I'm typing this on my phone, I'm sitting poolside at a resort in southern California sipping a margarita like a semi-classy person. Madison (my husband), his parents, and I are here to visit his side of the family and to vacation and it is seriously wonderful. The weather is beautiful and cool in the evenings on the mountain where is grandpa lives, and his family is kind and welcoming. We landed in San Diego and stayed a night before coming here, and of course that was beautiful as well.
But call me crazy, I miss home right now! HOW? I am finally in a state where I don't step outside into a wall of sweaty humidity. But along with the absence of humidity comes the absence of sweet tea, the absence of people saying "bless you" when you sneeze in the store. People out here don't know what Publix is. WAT?!
Homesickness has given me such a gratitude for our home, though. What a blessing it is to have a place you love enough to miss. And boy do I love our home. I love our cuddly nutso cats. I love the fact that my best friend lives a block away. I love being able to make a homemade meal even though I HATE going to the grocery store (I hate it so much).
I love my home. It's not "finished", it's far from perfect or magazine worthy, but it's been decorated and lived in intentionally, and that makes it perfect to me.
I hope I always remember to feel grateful for home, maybe without the homesickness ;)
